American Ashcan School Painter, 1882-1925 American painter and lithographer. He was the son of George Bellows, an architect and building contractor. He displayed a talent for drawing and for athletics at an early age. In 1901 he entered Ohio State University, where he contributed drawings to the school yearbook and played on both the basketball and baseball teams. Rubens Peale
Rubens Peale (May 4, 1784 - July 17, 1865) was an American artist and museum director. Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of artist-naturalist, Charles Willson Peale.
ANTHONISZ Cornelis
b. ca. 1499, Amsterdam, d. ca. 1555, Amsterdam Dutch printmaker, painter and cartographer, maternal grandson of JACOB CORNELISZ. VAN OOSTSANEN. He was the dominant figure in the creation of north Netherlandish woodcuts from the mid-1530s until his death. His monogram, which combines the initials 'C' and 'T' with the staff and bell of St Anthony, was probably inspired by his father's first name. The greater part of his career was apparently spent in his native Amsterdam, where he probably trained with his grandfather.
Wyatt Eaton
(May 6, 1849 - June 7, 1896) was an Canadian/American portrait and figure painter, remembered as one of the founders of the Society of American Artists. Born in Philipsburg, Quebec, Lower Canada, Eaton was a student of the National Academy of Design, New York. In 1872, he moved to Paris and studied at the École des Beaux-Arts under Jean-Leon Gerôme. During this time, he made the acquaintance of Jean-François Millet at Barbizon, and was also influenced by his friend Jules Bastien-Lepage. After his return to the United States in 1877, he became a teacher in the Cooper Institute, and opened a studio in New York City. He became one of the founders of the Society of American Artists, in which he was the first secretary. Eaton died from tuberculosis at Newport, Rhode Island on June 7, 1896.
